Dos and Don’ts of Newborn Shoots
Newborns are delicate and fragile, and the ultimate care must be taken in the process of a newborn photoshoot.
Here are some dos and don’ts for newborn baby photoshoots.
Do Feed Your Baby
Before your shoot starts, make sure that your newborn is adequately fed so that they don’t get fussy during the shoot. If your baby starts crying during the shoot, make sure you’re carrying their bottle around so that they don’t go hungry.
Don’t Overfeed Your Baby
Overfeeding to make sure your baby is asleep during the photoshoot can be harmful. Also, try to get in some shots of when your baby is awake and interacting with mom and dad.
It’ll make the shoot more unique since it’ll capture the bond between the parents and family, making it a special moment to share and remember.
Do Use Natural Light
The best light to capture your baby in is natural light. If you’re doing a shoot in your home, place your baby near a window. The light near the windows is soft and perfect for capturing your baby’s soft skin.
Do Practice Safety Measures
If you’re placing your baby near a window, make sure that there’s no harsh light coming in as it can be harmful for your newborn. Don’t ever place your baby on a chair or a bench— avoid any edge-less surface as your baby can fall, resulting in severe injury.
Whatever pose your photographer chooses, make sure that your newborn’s neck is always supported. This is because an infant’s bones and muscles are soft and not fully developed yet— abusing their flexibility can lead to long term damage.
Don’t Leave Your Baby Unattended
If you’ve hired a photographer to shoot your newborn, remember to never leave your baby unattended. Even if your photographer does have an assistant or a spotter, try to make sure that someone you trust is always present.
This is to ensure complete safety of your newborn and ensure that your baby doesn’t get injured during the shoot.
